Apple faces U.S. ban on older iPhones

Apple has lost a ruling by a U.S. trade panel in a patent dispute with rival Samsung, which could mean some older models of the iPhone and iPad are banned from sale in the country.

The International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled that Apple infringed on a Samsung paten relating to 3G wireless technology.

In a statement South Korea’s Samsung said, “We believe the ITC’s final determination has confirmed Apple’s history of free-riding on Samsung’s technological innovations.”

The ITC ordered a halt on all imports and sales on AT&T-sold models of the iPhone 4, iPhone 3, iPhone 3GS as well as the iPad 3G and iPad 2 3G.

The ban can be overturned on Presidential order.
