HDB has started work on 40,000 new high-spec homes in Singapore. The HDB is undergoing work on three new housing projects to join their existing list of green developments. These developments are based in the Tampines North, Punggol Matilda, and Bidadari areas and are expected to provide 40,000 new homes for Singaporeans. The Punggol Matilda development was started in September 2013, whilst the projects in Tampines North will be launched later this year and work in Bidadari will follow at the beginning of next year.
The HDB have stated that: “The development plans are tailored to capitalise on each estate’s distinct character, history and local flavour, so as to infuse each housing area with a unique identity and living experience for their residents.” For example, the Matilda district of Punggol is going to take advantage of its proximity to the waterfront with flats commanding waterfront views. Also Bidadari has been designed as an urban oasis enabling residents to relax in a garden like setting, whilst also capitalising on the area’s rich heritage and convenient transport connections. All of the plans seek to provide a high quality living environment for residents.
