This year’s edition of Asia IoT Business Platform (AIBP) will focus on concrete discussions between IoT solution providers and end users to address key challenges and pain points in implementing IoT in businesses.
ASEAN countries continue to make remarkable progress in many fronts. Projections for the region remain robust over the next three years, with growth expected at five-six percent, compared to global growth of around three percent. With a population of more than 600 million, a nominal GDP of $2.31 trillion, and a clear evolution from a low-cost manufacturing base to a sturdy pillar of Asia’s GDP growth, there is little doubt that ASEAN is in the frontline of global growth.
The next step for the region, however, is to address its productivity challenges. To this end, ASEAN is aggressively capitalising on IoT technology to catalyse and sustain its growth. While IoT has grown tremendously over the past few years – being heralded as the “fourth industrial revolution” that can change the way businesses and organisations operate – IoT adoption remains conservative. Concerns over cost effectiveness, interoperability and security loom over the decision-making process, creating the needs for businesses to seek thought leadership, use cases, and consultative strategic planning to better understand how to adopt IoT successfully.
The second focus of Asia IoT Business Platform will be on small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which currently make up 98.5 percent of businesses and account for some 70 percent of national employment. By 2021, value of SME GDP will account for 50 percent of total GDP. SMEs are encouraged to initiate creative and innovative business, with the use of technologies and R&D, and the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion has plans for boosting “Smart SMEs”, as part of Thailand 4.0 Initiative.
This is a dynamic industry platform that should not be missed if you want to understand more about enterprise digital transformation and IoT in ASEAN, understand businesses’ needs and challenges in adopting IoT, and establish important connections that will benefit you and your organisation in many ways.
